What kind of camera are you looking for?
With $800 you can probabaly find the EOS 450D which is intermediate DSLR. Really great camera.
Or are you looking for more of a point-and-shoot?

What do you want to take pictures of mostly?

So, you want something compact, and more of a point-and-shoot?

Or something for like more serious photography, like portraits of your daughter etc.

Umm is there a happy medium or am I going to have to pick one for now and buy one later?

Because if so i would rather get one where i can take nice looking, higher quality pictures of my daughter.

Have you ever held a DSLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera before?
If not....

I would suggest:
http://www.vistek.ca/store/DigitalCameras/239821/canon-powershot-g10-digital-camera.aspx
Which is the newest PowerShot made by Canon.
I actually started photography with an earlier version of this camera, and after reading
a lot of good reviews on this, I assume it would be a really perfect camera for pretty much anything.

This is also another pretty nice camera I have read reviews on.
Although it is quite more expensive.

Last but not least is:

I've know a few people who use this camera and the pictures they can get (Usually when they are out at a bar, party etc.)
have come out really nice.

What if i dont even know what that part means? How hard is it to take a decent looking picture with a camera that is not just point and shoot?

Looking into those three cameras now.

Well, a DSLR is more for photography.
A bit more advanced, and takes a bit more time to learn if you have never used on before.

Theres 2 really small differnces:
Most point-and-shoot do some things automatically for you and don't let you have a lot of freedom with settings (Although not all point and shoot are like this, some can even be better than dslr's)
But DSLR's are a bit more for somebody who might know what they are doing with a camera.

Eg. you know what to set White Balance, Aperature, F stop, shutter speed etc. to.
They might take a bit longer to learn.

With a point and shoot, you can almost take it right out of the box and begin taking pictures.

Alright i am looking at the G10 right now, but i am going to look more into the DSLR cameras for me to pick up a bit further down the road because for now my daughter is 18 months and I doubt is holding still long enough for me to make adjustments like that.

I would pick the G10 if I was to chose one.
Good price.
Made by Canon-Your getting good quality.
Good specs on the camera.
