I am looking for a telezoom lens for my Eos 450D.

What to look for?

I prefer IS, or is it not really that worth?

I have two lenses in mind:

Canon EF-S - 55 mm - 250 mm - f/4.0-5.6 IS
Canon EF - 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

OMG you are back! lol I was wondering when you would post in here again tongue.gif well someone posted a review on 55-250 IS lens couple of days ago and I am sure youve already seen it.
the image quality produced by that lens was a lot better than I thought its just too bad that the build quality is quite poor.

so how much do you want to spend on a zoom lens? If you dont mind spending 650+ dollars I'd recommend you 70-200 4.0 L. it doesnt have IS but its an L lens
or there are also 28-135 IS USM and 17-85 IS USM which are two quite good mid range zooms

I'd go with the 55-250 IS. The 75-300 IS is much more expensive, and not (as far as I know) better in Image quality. The 70-300 non-IS isn't worth looking at - the lens is junk. If you plan on shooting without a tripod, having IS is very very helpful. You can see some sample shots I took with the 55-250 vs. the Sigma 70-300 APO DG in my comparison thread. The 70-300IS is a good lens, but I'm not sure it's worth the price over the 55-250. At that price, I'd be looking at the 70-200 f/4 L. It doesn't have IS, but it's a superior lens in every other sense. They make 4 versions of the 70-200L:

f/4 L
f/4 L IS
f/2.8 L
f/2.8 IS

Each goes up in price. If you have money, those lenses are sweet. If you don't, I'd take the 55-250. Outstanding IQ for the price.

I saw your topic. Great! smile.gif

In my opinion the 55- 250 wins.

Ehm. I am a bit noobish, but how much can I zoom ?

Bergmann Could you take a shot at 55 and at 250 for me ? smile.gif

Thanks so far. biggrin.gif

just a question out of the blue biggrin.gif has anyone used the new ef-s 18-200 IS lens? I have seen some bad comments about it in another forum so im kinda wondering if any of you have used it.
it would have been a perfect walk around lens if the image quality is good in its entire range

keep in mind the crop factor, you need to multiply the focal lenght you are using x 1.6 to get the effective 35mm field of view

Yeah, I'll take a shot at 55 vs 250 tomorrow so you can see what it looks like with the 1.6 crop factor on the XSi. I'll post it in here.
