I built a couple rooms (one on top of another) in my factions base, and they aren't spawning anything?

Floor is 15 squares wide, not including walls. It's 4 blocks high, not including walls.

I grew grass for the floor cuz iirc monsters spawn on grass?

No light except from the doorway which I've made a 3 block corridor leading back into the room so it doesn't illuminate too much.

There are a bunch of caves and shit under EVERYTHING on the overworld, is that going to prevent me from spawning anything?


I am really confused.. The random unfinished building near spawn constantly has spiders/zombies/skeleton archers.

what is the game mode, peaceful?

are monster spawning elsewhere in your world?

monsters don't spawn on grass only, they can spawn on almost anything. it just depends mainly on the light level.
some blocks like half slabs and glass will not allow mobs to spawn on them however

and yes, there's a building near spawn that's got a bunch of holes and an open 3rd floor and it has about 10-15 monsters in it all the time

im thinking maybe there are open spaces under my base? but that can't be the issue cuz 2 skeleton archers spawned in the top floor of the building ONCE while i was farming above it

Okay so I need ocelots... and I can't find jungle... is this gonna work? It's only 1 block (naturally generated grass, oak tree leaf blocks).

Do I need to stay near it?

You need to be in a jungle. According to the wiki (Usually, I would know about mobs, but I never search for ocelots):

Ocelots try to spawn on grass blocks or leaves at sea level or higher in jungle biomes. There is a 1⁄3 chance that a spawn attempt will fail.

Ocelot kittens can also be found randomly - two occasionally spawn with an adult ocelot. With the exception of a faster movement rate, ocelot kittens obey the same behavior as adults.


/e Far as the hostile mobs, sounds like it may be a server setting. It's like that on a few servers I've been on, but others would have a constant spawning of them no matter how many people were on.

well nvm i realized its mcmmo so i just summoned a cat lol

seems my monster spawner is doomed to never work but fishing gives ridiculous exp so fuck it
