I blame my first HL loss at rank 8 on myself as someone said Anub is the best pick for the comp with others agreeing. I said I'm not that good at Anub but I know the build and they said " youll be fine ".
I don't think I'm that bad of a player but I didn't know who to cocoon (I was going for the support or highest damage), I didn't know when I should be charging in and who I should be spiking. Just overall played terrible.
I had a situation like that yesterday. Our team already had Diablo (My primary tank), and were asking me to do a second tank (because the other team had 2 and it was a team fight map). I offered up Leoric, which I typically do quite well with and rarely die if I'm honest... they all spammed "no no no no" "Muradin!". So I caved in and played a Muradin that I have played twice in my life about 4 months ago when he was more popular than he is now. I had the master tier pick list from Hotslogs but I had no idea how to position myself, when to leap, when to stun. I was playing him as I would Diablo. Aggressive. And I got blown the fuck up lol
I have no problem filling roles, I personally kind of like picking 5th because it's nice to play Support/Tank here and there... but what I can't stand is people telling me to ignore what I'm good with and pick some fringe META hero. Like when people tell me to pick Zera, which I have limited (level 6) AI related experience on... I typically say "I'm sorry, I'd rather play a hero I know then try to counter a mage with one that I don't".
I can understand people demanding "a tank" or "A heal" when you're 5th pick and need to fill... but I would rather people not pressure me into playing something I've barely touched over something I have experience in. IMO a person with 200 games on a Leoric (even tho he isn't a solo tank) could probably do a better job of solo tanking than telling him to pick a Jo that he played 2 AI games on.
Experience > META for me anyways.
