Why bother with MMR?
Does it make your dick bigger?
Like hotslog said, not official mmr.
And it's preseason.
You are correct in stating that hotslog MMR is not official MMR.
That is a true statement.
What you might be overlooking is that hotslog ranks you against all other players who are also on hotslogs.....meaning if you have 3500 MMR and are rank 800 in Master League tier then that genuinely means your MMR is the 800th highest on the server.
To restate that again....I am currently around rank 2,000 in Diamond for Hero League. That means that all 800 Master tier players are ranked higher than me as well as the top 1,999 Diamond players, making me the person with the 2,800th highest MMR on the server. My hidden Blizzard MMR may not be 3100....it might be 7,000 or 2,000.....none of us really know they numbers they use.
What we do know is that hotslogs ranks you RELATIVE to all other users. So your ranking (determined by your MMR) is actually pretty accurate (With the exception of people at or below 2,200-ish MMR because those games aren't always recorded. With that being said though, if people at that MMR start improving their play and climbing....they will notice on hotslogs that their teammates/opponents will always have a much higher MMR than theirs and eventually those same teammates will be uploading games and the lower MMR player will have his rating adjusted accordingly....it just may take 100-200 more games if they aren't uploading themselves.
Lastly, MMR does matter in preseason because Blizzard stated they will not be performing a hard reset when Season 1 starts. Once Season 1 starts Rank 1 players will actually be only the top 2% instead of what it is now....which according to a straw poll on reddit was about the top 10-15% of players. That means only the people with the top 2% of MMR will be able to have rank 1. So even in preseason MMR does have a purpose, and if you care about being rank 1 then chances are you are doing your best to improve your chances of getting there when the new season starts.
Hopefully that wasn't too confusing, it's early and I'm tired.
