Her ranking isn't all that great tbh.... out of 5 tiers i would throw her into tier 4 with 1 being the best. You really need specific team comps for sonya, and almost like a premade. She's really good with all-in heroes something like Muradin, Johanna, and Butcher. So if you got 2 all-in heroes on the team I can see Sonya doing pretty good since the chances of you getting blown up on the front line is now 33% down from 50%.
Honestly though if you play really well any hero can be really good. The tier list is pretty much heroes that are extremely broken or very easy heroes that people who aren't good with can use to win. Example: KT... he's really easy to use, and noobs can use him, and he does insane amounts of aoe hero dmg so he's gunna be top tier assuming the "noobs" can read a guide and build him correctly lol which is easy as hell...

i also started playing muradin, im liking him. i notice he is tier 1 on c9 tier list lol. he is similar to sonya
