In Control Panel > Device manager > Display Adaptors there will be a reference to the primary and secondary graphics processors. Make sure all devices are working in their properties. The HDMI output may have to be enabled
Right mouse on the desktop > Appearance and Personalisation > Adjust Resolution. There should be at least 2 monitor icons labeled 1 and 2, Default Monitor, and Plug and Play Monitor.
Highlight monitor 1 and next to Display select the plug and play monitor in the dropdown list. If it's not in the list press Detect.
Next to Multiple Display select Duplicate The Display.
Apply.
OR...... Click Advanced settings and select the tab referring to the graphics processor drivers. Click on Device Settings, under Modes select Clone. Make sure the peripheral HDMI display is set to primary number 1.
Apply.
If the TV now has a replica of the laptop display, that means everything works, and you can follow directions.
If still no picture on the TV, see if it works with DVI interface. There's socket adaptors for both way conversions. The image quality is the same as HDMI, so if that works, good. Leave it.
There's a few different DVI pin configurations, you'll need a DVI-I dual link adaptor plug or cable for this operation.
If still no good, there's RGB analog interface, not as crisp, but good to try anyway. Some laptops also have S-video port as another option.
Though when changing cables with different ports, you may have to return to display settings and modify the output type to RGB analog, digital, HDMI, DVI....
