Hey HeadofState,
I am not voting on the idea yet, as I would like to see more clarification and feedback from other forum members. However, these are my concerns with it so far:
1) Will people be able to abuse the system and fake-bid/bin items in an attempt to remove them from the seller's list of available items? As a buyer or seller, you can always back out from buying/selling the item at any point. I believe this could be an issue with the proposed system.
Thank You for touching on this, this would be my example. Say you wanted to buy a Ber Rune from me and I had a BIN option (button appears next to add reply, etc.) You click it, it sends the seller a notification (same way they already do when anyone posts in a thread you own). Say you found one for 100 fg Cheaper by the time I PM'd you a game name and backed out, happens alot right.... well in the notification that is sent to the seller would have a "remove item" or "keep item/retracted" selections allowing the seller to verify whether or not the item was actually sold. It would not count against the buyer in anyway to retract/raise/lower a bid amount, just like it would not count against a seller to remove a listing if they are not getting the activity they were hoping for.
2) Will people be able to spam your mailbox with unrealistic bids?
I would agree this could be a problem, maybe as a part of the BID button feature, there could be a minimum bid allowed function before it allows you to actually offer on an item. (For instance.. Say I listed a Ber Rune for sale, anyone who hit the BID button attempting to lowball would simply not be able to input a bid. Say you tried to offer 100fg for my Ber Rune, what I would see happening is your attempt to confirm that BID you typed in gets denied and under it in red lettering it says minimum bid for Ber Rune is 1300fg, so those trying to low ball at 100fg wouldn't be able too. This would all be in the sellers hands, if they don't want a min bid/reserve on their item, then yes... They would potentially get spammed with bids, maybe a function where bids only over a certain amount get recognized in that case? I would say 70% of the time most people have a price in mind when listing an item.
3) The idea seems to propose to add another level of complexity to the already existing natural system. I am not quite sure if it is needed. You can already mark off/cross-off/delete items as OP by editing your topic.
You can only edit your original post for so long before you are quoting, striking through, deleting. Pretty soon you are 5-7 pages deep and you have sold 60% of your mules but you still have 50+ items to sell. It would be nice for those clicking the post for the first time to see what is actually for sale on the first page vs trying to locate the last known update, which depending on what is for sale, the topic could be full of spam, low offers, people who don't update their Ft's, etc.
This is just my opinion and I could definitely be wrong :) Waiting to hear the clarifications and the feedback from others
I welcome opposing views, it is how we move forward in life <3
