So I haven’t been accused or anything but I read a lot of the S/A topics just to kind of keep an eye on stuff and there are A LOT of false accusations, no proof topics and simply assumptions on it. I think these need to come with a forum warn % when people pull that kind of stuff. I’ve seen some pretty reputable people get accused by new players who have no clue how d2jsp works or are simply too ignorant to read up on things before diving in to the trade forums.

I agree. I myself will be volunteering soon to help with high price trades with new , unfamiliar faces to d2jsp. Help take the load of the mods! Ya, people getting falsely accused happens and it sucks, but at the same time, if people get punished because they don't have enough evidence in their case to prove they got scammed, they won't even bother posting it to let anyone else know and possibly not get scammed.

So while people being free to just accuse people without reason isn't exactly a good thing, being punished a second time for forgetting to take screen shots/record trades is probably worse.

I mean… if you don’t have evidence you really shouldn’t post it. It makes you look goofy.

It’s just like real life. If you accuse someone falsely there are legal ramifications if you do it to the authorities.

Not having evidence doesn't make the accusations false, though.
..and false accusations have gotten people locked. I have seen it.

Add a poll in the future when you make suggestions.

I do think lack of evidence is just as bad as false accusations overall for a community. If no one knows then all it is doing is affecting morale and civility.

Do not do this. Mediating without an official mediator tag is forbidden and will result in punitive action being taken against your account.

False accusations do happen from time to time, especially when users get scammed by IN GAME impersonations (where the scammer claims to be a different d2jsp user) - the fact that this causes a "false" accusation is not the fault of the person who makes the SA, as they do believe that they were scammed by the person they claim to. We close this topics in a way that it's evident that the user who was accused was not actually the one that scammed.

However, intentional false accusations in an attempt to get someone locked / defame their character are taken very seriously, and serious consequences are taken against users that maliciously do this.

I’ve read a lot of these S/A’s hundreds probably at this point. I find it fascinating. Like detective work. But it’s not just impersonators. It’s also lack of communication, language barriers, veterans taking advantage of newbies, new scam accounts being made, last minute price changes… heck I don’t have to explain it to you, you handle a lot of these I’ve seen it lol. There is a lot of toxicity in the trading game and it bleeds out into the S/A section. I’m glad the false accusations get handled though. That’s good to know cause I feel like I’ve read over 20 of these in just the last week it feels like.

I had someone false accuse me for two days over me commenting on a post of his after he bought an item from me trying to pressure me to sell instantly just so he can repost. Maybe bad on my part as well, but can simply report my comment. He continued to flame over 20 posts of mine saying I was a scammer and not to scam me and continued to share his contrived story of how I scammed his friend in game and had zero proof of what happened.

It's absolutely pathetic and sad nothing happens from this. Over a 3-day span, I shared every single post in the accusation thread, messaged 3 different moderators stating someone would get to it, as well as all posts and communications between us and nothing happened other than him making me have to get a mediator for every trade for two days due to people assuming I'm a scammer. I really hope they do implement something for this because it's sad that some of these GROWN ASS ADULTS who don't see day light can do this with zero repercussions whatsoever.

I agree with some of the posts here that view your suggestion as impractical. Penalizing members for bringing forth their accusations will not result in a healthy environment. Members should be able to bring up any accusations they want. Luckily, the S/A team takes lengthy and consistent actions to analyze each case and see if there is enough evidence/proof to justify the accusation. As Eerock pointed out, purposeful and wrongful accusations with an intent to cause damage to another member are serious violations and are not taken lightly. I believe this practice is enough to discourage most malicious actions.

I would suggest you to follow the recommended rubric for this section and add a poll to your topic. Without it, this idea will not get anywhere.
