Hi all,

I think it might help to have an additional visible trading metric that would should how many trades a person had and how many of them were successful.

I believe this might add some credibility to newer members of the forum such as myself who trade a lot.

A lot of people associate newer accounts with scammers and/or generally less trustworthy members, which is perfectly fine. However, it would be nice to differentiate between some of these newer accounts to see which ones of them actually trade a lot and how successful they are. This will greatly increase our perception on the forum, and will switch the focus from the time of when the account was created to how many trades a person has conducted and how successful they were.

The success can be simply measured in the completion of the trade; or we can get rid of the idea of successful trades altogether.

Simply showing how many trades/transactions you had below your name could be already very helpful in my opinion.

Hi Tony!

Thank you for your suggestion, however I would like to disagree on a few points.

Yes people do associate new accounts with an increase of scamming, however, old accounts with very high trading metrics have scammed.

The root cause is risky trading, and how to solve it, the only real solution that will help is with using a mediator with trades.

Perception will change overtime and will go through cycles, in the mean time, do your best to request a mediator no matter who you deal with.

I don't think this is needed, sorry!

Hey, Krawk,

You might be right here.

I am simply looking for something that would help to differentiate between credible vs non-credible new members as well as move away from the importance of the join date mentality that is present on the forum.

I have encountered numerous cases where people were unwilling to deal with me due to being a new account and were not willing to get a mediator either due to insignificant fg amounts involved in my initial transactions.

Thanks,

Hi Tony,

I think your suggestion is similar to another on the front page here: https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=89459193

I have to respectfully disagree. The trusted tag feature works as intended - no number of successful trades guarantees no scam. Always use a mediator when you can - this is what site staff encourage and it's the only way to guarantee a successful trade.

Edit: personally, I wouldn't trust anyone unwilling to use a mediator. It's ridiculously easy and fast, new users should be encouraged to use mediation. There is a 100fg minimum, however.

I respect your opinion, Maximilien.

The post you provided does seem to refer to a similar topic.

I don't think that an additional safety feature/metric would hurt anyone, however. The trusted tag feature does take a major involvement on the forum from what I understand. I guess we can only slowly work towards it. :)

The problem is, scammers will do legitimate trades and create an illusion of credibility.. which over time will make them a more powerful scammer.

Scamming is a part of the problem of evil and suffering, and it goes much deeper than having preventable measures in place on a forum. Mitigating from this evil the safest way (currently), is best done through a mediator.

I do agree that additional safety features are always good, my only worry is users exploiting their high successful trade status. I've seen scams from all kinds of users regardless of their # of successful trades - being able to display it could lead to false trust and encouragement of trading without a mediator.

I like the trusted tag feature because it takes so long to earn. I know that I can trust each and every mediator because they invested in the site and its people.

Now, I do think that well intended new users on this website suffer because of their opposites. I am not sure if there is a safe solution for that besides time and energy invested in the forums.

Thank you for this discussion, I'm enjoying it.

Likewise, thanks for your feedback!

You do bring valid points for sure. I guess I am mostly dissatisfied with how much focus is attributed to the join date within this community.

I think it can be just as misleading as this proposed trade metric. However, people seem to value it. That was the reason I wanted to come up with something else that can combat that mentality and give new, but active members more credibility.

I don't like the 2/3 rule either, or any trade where the deciding factor of trading first is join date.

I'd love an additional and optional verification step for new members to demonstrate that they are the unique owner of one account. I think that would solve trust issues, nobody wants to have their one and only verified account locked and scammer tagged. It is against the rules to create more than one account, but it happens and generates community animosity toward new members as a whole.

Love your sig and ava BTW. Obsessed with carbot, those animations are too funny.
