Sorry bud, going to go with a no on this one. The current system to "save" or mark read msg works well. Adding a mark read drop down in said menu may give someone a chance to accidentally mark something as read when it has not been read. If you read a msg that you wish to save for a specific reason, such as needing to mark it as read, then moving to an appropriate folder is a much better option. For example.

1. makes sense because we only have its opposite as one option ("mark unread"). also, almost every email service has a function to mark something as "read" without having to click on the message. jsp should have that too!
2. makes even more sense and is definitely causing confusion.

Users could just mark a PM as read and not read something. As is when you click something it toggles it from an unread view to a read view. Having the experience of losing pms myself and for reasons that are specifically and unknown to me, I definitely did not enjoy that wonder of if those very important and latest pms vanish.

This site suggestion also in part disables the msg tracking feature.

If I get a msg by a user that I wish not to read then possibly the right thing to do is just delete it.
