As with many changes, the fact that it is such a difference from the old can make it seem more shocking than it is. Give it a week and you'd never want to go back to the old way. This has been the case with myriads of changes over the years.
That said, if you have other layout suggestions specifically to make regarding this change (such as some css tweaks for some of the subforums that don't allow posting), feel free to make them (pictures are helpful). The old table data list has no plans to be returned, as we move forwards towards a better more consolidated UI.
