should be able to tag users, to intantly notify them of a thread, therefore we can tag our friends when we see something they might want

Added ^USERNAME notification for posting. When used, it will send the user a notification they've been mentioned/quoted in that topic. If a username has any characters besides alphanumeric, you must quote it like so: ^"USER NAME" (Sep 26 2019)
Using ^USERNAME now shows as "mentioned" instead of "quoted" to the user being notified. (Sep 27 2019)
Supported characters without having to quote a user in a ^ mention are: a-z A-Z 0-9 _ - ~ Everything else must be quoted, including spaces or periods. (Sep 27 2019)

the point is that if i go to a thread of someone elses, i want to tag one of my friends who has not yet seen the thread, i want him to be notified to look at that thread.

Mine works without the quotes. As long as you have their user name correct they'll get a notification that they were mentioned in said thread.

If you edit the ^ in however, they will not get any notification.
