The approach of adding cryptocurrency as a trading payment could be done in many different ways -
- My first and preferred way of adding this would simply be only allowing it in the DF to start with - perhaps even a subforum/different section for it.
- Limit/allow a number of different assests -- let's say we only start with a handful and gradually open up the approved currencies later on.
- All trade topics must contain the public wallet address so trades can be confirmed to prevent scams.
Please keep in mind I'm not talking about "adding Bitcoin to purchase FG" or support Crypto > Real life cash methods. Strictly and limited to the current supported games on jsp (D2, PoE, Steam related items, WoW etc etc)
Trade would go as follow.
Person A open up thread:Buying Dota 2 Arcanas for X amount of $BTC each.
My wallet address: <BTC wallet adress>
Person B the seller post:Hello, I've got 2x Dota 2 Arcanas willing to trade..
My wallet address: <BTC wallet adress>
Person A contact person B regarding Steam ID/trade link (the required information to finalize the trade - similar to obtaining the Diablo 2 game/pw)Trade completed - if necessary, there's a confirmation trade done on the blockchain proving the $BTC went to person B's wallet from person A.
The game, or in my scenario, if Steam there's logs and inventory history to prove if the trade did not meet the agreements from both parties.
Future goals:
Have over 100 featured currencies accepted and traded with.
Allowing payments to be done outside DF.
Add FG vs Cryptocurrency as an allowed trade.
Challenges:
Mediator's? Will it be done similar like Steam games? When the user can't be send the game to the mediator due the restrictions of gifting.
Stolen cryptocurrencies? Liability for jsp and the users?
Privacy coins? Simply not allow them?
Fee confusion - especially if the transaction has to go through a mediator.
Pros and cons -
+ Bigger and broader interest for users exchanging their digital goods.
- Misconceptions and inexperience in the beginning.
+ Adoption
- Pretty pointless for some coins to be used due to high fee's in low value trades.
- Price drops/increases.
...and much more.
Some poor suggestions of adding a Bitcoin section -

No cryptocurrency involved in RLT, Star upgrades, FG purchases & anything that is against the rules.
I believe I didn't mention a looooot of things that is good/bad about this - so feel free to add whatever you want to this discussion.
But in the early days of the Steam section here on jsp we didn't allow anything, but after suggestions and PM's with Kevin he finally decided to open up some small allowed trades in the DF section, which eventually lead to it's own section, and now it's allowing more and more - giving people the access to buy any game, and it's success made it open up battle.net games as an approved trading feature.
Who knows, maybe long-term it'll increase the demand and value of FG and we will have a much better community when it comes to trading - But I'm sure most of the mod team and old users don't like this idea on first glance, but please keep your mind open and add any valuable feedback you think will be important to discuss -- and if we start slow, we might have a similar story like the game trading as I mentioned.
