My suggestion is basicly to enable more users than one to report violating post which would allow to the moderators to attend to the real problems faster.

I think this idea would make it easier for you moderators to faster and more efficiently see which reported posts you should attend to and at the same time make these forums a cleaner place for us others.
First of all, I don't know how the post report system works under the hood today but I guess you have some kind of grading how severe and fast you should attend to the flagged post.

Problem:
I see it as most of time I report a post no actions are taken by the moderators, I imagine this is due to the fact that to much "junk" is reported making it hard to sort out the most disturbing posts.
The problem as I see it is that you can only report a specific post once. This poses two problems; firstly the reported post may be wrongly flagged which could grade the post more/less severe than it actually is; secondly and the most important problem is that this system gives you no grading of how the magnitude or severeness of the violation (i.e. early bump/spam/outside link and so on) actually is.

Solution:
A system which allow multiple users to report a post will take away both these problems. First you will be able to judge if the flagged post actually is correctly flagged by seeing which flag has the most reports for the specific post. Secondly you will be able to see how big of a problem the specific post is by just judging by the number of users have reported this.

I also imagine you have some kind of place today where all report are listed where you manually go through them one by one. This new system I suggest would enable you to sort these list from most reported post to least, making it better and more effeciently for you to sort out the real violations and in the end makes each report count more for all of us on this forums.

Example:
Lets give you an example, post A gets reported for spam becouse another user just dislikes the user who posted it, in reality this wasn't spam. Post B gets reported by 25 different users for spam. Post C gets reported by 140 different users for spam and by 72 users for flaming. In the current system the all these posts A,B and C could be reported as spam, and the moderators have to go through the posts one by one making a manual evaluation of all the posts. This new system would easily be able to sort out post B and C as spam with a high number of users reported it as such, post C would probably be attended to fast as both spam and flaming had been reported by a high number of users. Post A would perhaps not even be looked at as it would get outsorted by "real" violations by just analysing the amount of reports.

Possible downsides:
Now, I can see only two downsides with this suggestion. First it would take a bit of coding to make this happen, but I estimate it would be worth it in the long run. Secondly I see how user may abuse this, maybe to systematically discredit other users they do not like or just to make it harder for you moderators. However, I cannot see how that the system I suggest would have more problems than the system of today. This could possible also be fixed with an additional system to grade how correct a specific user has reported in the past based on history but that is a possible future discussion.

The report system works perfectly as it is.

Just because you cannot see that an action was taken, doesn't meant that nothing was done.
Keep in mind that not everything we do is visible.

Every single report is looked into and carefuly evaluated. If a rule violation takes place, then action is taken.

I do appreciate your sincere concern on this matter.
