Good morning/evening everyone, depending where you are.

I'm gathering all important information about this game franchise and it is one I have been playing for years.

I'd really like to exploit the possibility of this into here, but I cannot do it without your help and input!

Mortal Kombat Series games, especially the most recent one, Mortal Kombat X has these elements.

History: To give a brief history, Mortal Kombat started in 1991 as a player vs computer type of game involving gory martial combat. Now, it has developed to a more PvP (online mode) and hands-on peer support type of game focusing on character mastery, competitiveness and achieving items and costumes.

Cutting to the chase:

Platforms available: Xbox1, PS4, PC and very soon a "free version" on iOS/android app. Can be played through Steam, which means added versatility in gaming & trading!

Accomplishment/promo of the game: (from MKX ProLeague)
Quote
The game has a sizeable e-sports following, with international tournaments in Europe, CIS, and North America with US $1,000 weekly tournament prizes starting on 19 April 2015 with a season final on 11 July 2015 worth at least US $50,000

How it could benefit/be relevant to us:

*Game currency: Kombat koins - think of this as IP in League of Legends - Not something that is tradeable. This currency is obtained by victories in ALL game modes, even PvP.
*Limited selection of steam trading cards.
*Lots of added features! (DLC content - costumes ("skins"), characters, special moves/finishers and other collectable game components that are developed periodically).
*Can discuss strategy and it would be in abundance.
*FACTIONS! Yep, this means, this could be appealing with a guild, too. MKX has a "Faction wars" feature (think of this as GW2 style where guilds vs guilds). Best of all, it's cross-platform.
*With a higher PvP focus, this means more "wagers" and duels. More tournaments, more competitions - potentially.

How it can be counter-productive or not applicable to us:

*Excessive gore with fatalities - this is something important to recognize and discuss.
*Longevity; interest of the game

Strengths: PvP activity boost, community interaction, strategy, guild activities.
Weaknesses: lack of trading vs other games like D2/D3/PoE.

I've voted Yes because I really think it could add more to d2jsp community on the nostalgic way, but I got a few questions :

How many people do you think it will bring to our community?
Do you think it should be on what platform?
Every game will have his own topic? won't be cause to a huge sticky information? if so then why not just open them in the Other Games section as topics?
How many users roughly playing these games to your knowledge?

This figure, I don't know but it is a highly appealing game from a PvP perspective. I would expect a decent amount, but I cannot put a number on it at this time.

Do you think it should be on what platform?

Since it is a cross-platform game, it will be in Sony Game Systems (PS4) and xbox along with PC and Android/iOS. The great thing about this is that it uses steam and it can be played on multiple platforms giving it great flexibility.

It looks to be a logical move to place it in 'Other Games' and include the whole series. As for stickies, I haven't gone as far as this, but it would be decided at a later point. Let's get ideas and points to see if this game fits in this forum.

How many users roughly playing these games to your knowledge?

There are thousands, in other words, LOTS. It is quite a popular series and game and for it to be highly regarded in E3 promos, this can only be a good thing.

Voting yes. I currently refer to the ps4 section for the (Very little) discussion about this game on jsp, even though I play PC.
This is the first time I've taken a MK game seriously, I've played most of them but never even went as far as learning all a character's specials.

Bumping this.

I think the game creators were serious enough to bring in a full blown multiplayer element into it.

They've tried in previous versions like mk armageddon, but it didn't go so well. It seems that they've really hit the nail on the head with this one though.
