My suggestion is simple:

Add to profiles the feature available in topics, forums, and sub-forums that allows you to see who is currently viewing your profile.

Reasoning:

1. The novelty factor of course. I feel it would be fun to know who is looking at your profile.

2. Help you target potential traders. I believe, especially in our more tightly knit communities, (for example East Hardcore Ladder or Classic), the ability to know who is viewing your profile could potentially help you target those individuals for trading. What I mean is, in these smaller communities, when you post an item (say a pair of pre-patch boots), there are only a finite (usually very small) number of potential purchasers. I feel this feature could help you (albeit in a small way) judge the interest in your item.

My second point, I am not sure is true or not. I don't really know if it would actually help you in that way, but to me it seems logical. I just think it would be fun to know who's snooping around in your profile.

Personally in a trade topic it's fine for me, however I don't see the interest to see/know who is viewing my profile or how it could help to target a person as a potential trader. When I check a profile it can be for another reason than for a trade.
What about a person who decided to uncheck the Show Me In Online Lists option? Does he appear as Anonymous?

If this idea is added, it could be good to have the option to disable it for the people who don't want.

For guild topics yes. However in this suggestion something is missing.
The possibility to see who is viewing my profile is available only for the person himself or by everyone as a trade topic?
It would not change my vote but could be interesting to have the precision from phinigma.

Yes - out of plain old curiosity of who's lookin' at my profile.

@Nico - for those who are anonymous while viewing threads, this could work like how it does for guild chats where you're always shown no matter if you have that option selected or not. Kiss.

There is no need to be insulting. Have you never went from a person's trade topic into their profile? I for one have, I can't be the only one.

Yes, but I have gone there to send that person a private message.
If someone is interested in your items, then he can PM you.

What purpose would it serve to see a list of people in your profile? You're going to PM all of them or something? This is completely senseless.

If you are talking about listing items in your profile and then someone goes there to see what you have for sale, then that's against the forum rules.
I know because I got "snitched" by Skymaster some years back and got pm'd by a mod to remove it
