It will only make more mess in the main page and you can see how many users are view the subforum / topic once you enter it ( in the bottom of the page ) .

I dont think so, by just adding users viewing shouldnt cluter up the main page if done right. i mean i dislike going in to diablo 3 forums and seeing 4 people online when i could have noticed that on the first page...

It would totally kill the less popular parts of the forums.

There are already a lot of things on the main page.
Personally I don't see the interest to know what is the most popular forum/subforum.
You should be active, and care about what you like, not about what people are looking.
