You can just go to your profile occasionally and look at the top/bottom of your friend list, it will say "x pending" if there are any pending requests
Also I believe you can set the d2jsp IM to make a sound when you receive a notification (must have it open in the background)

i would not even add someone, who doesnt pm me about it.

I don't see a point in this. Cause, personally I don't add anyone, whom I don't know.

D2jsp Instant Messenger does notify you when this occurs.

I don't add people if I don't know them. If they really want to join my friend list, they can send a pm.
As Namechange said, Instant Messenger give you a notification, and also a beep when a person send you a friend request.
If you don't use IM, just check one time per week if you have pending request, it's enough.
