I have made this suggestion because of one specific person, but I feel as though this is a great idea in general.

Based on the current rules of JSP, no matter how much someone "attempts" to scam, until they are actually successful, nothing happens to them and they are free to keep trying and trying until they get what they want.

Example:

In a specific subforum, someone attempted to scam my account. I had multiple screenshots of him trying to change my password, my recovery questions, etc etc(about 5 other things, but don't want to give too much information away here). I had more than enough proof that he was, in fact, trying to scam.

I posted all of this in the scammer accusation forums, and was told that, unless he "successfully scams" then he's free to keep trying.

I have seen -many- attempted scam posts about this guy(he's really bad at it), again, to no avail.

Recently, he was successful, and some poor guy lost about 15,000 fg worth of stuff. Even though 75% of the community knew the guy was a "scammer", he was never tagged for it, because he just failed every single time at actually completing the "scam". There will always be someone to lose out on their stuff unfairly based on the current rule.

My suggestion isn't to change the current rule at all(even though I personally think it's dumb that nothing happens for attempting to scam -- but I do understand you have to allow them a way to "pay back" their scams should they be locked). What I suggest is a new tag -- ATTEMPTED SCAMMER-- that would last a duration of 6 months(same as warns) with an appeal process possible after 3 months. This would warn the community for a longer period of time than someone just making a warning post about them, as well as hopefully deter them from trying this in the future.

No.

They already offer mediators for anyone to use and there's never a good excuse not to use one.
If you trade without a mediator, you knowingly take the risk.

An attempted scam is very hard to prove anyway despite whatever opinions you might have.

You should add a poll in your Site Suggestion etc :)

I completely disagree with your last comment. It's actually quite easy to prove when you provide the pm, trade topic, IP address, and 7 -different- screenshots of 7 -different- attempts to change my password/account recoveries/guardian/pin number that were e-mailed to me. There is actually 100% proof that he "attempted" to scam. I was actually told by the administrator that, while it's quite clear he attempted to scam, there are no rules against "attempting" to scam, just scamming itself. The reason he couldn't be tagged and locked, by rule, is because there has to be an option to unlock him later on down the road, because there is nothing to "repay".

Instead of a tag I think it should be a hefty ban if proven.

It is hard to prove people are attempting to scan but with the method he tried it was easily seen.

User should have been banned for 2weeks-3months for such blasphemy

I would be completely fine with a temp ban + warns, sort of like you suggest. I just feel like "attempting" to scam having 0 punishment and allowing them to continue until they are successful is nonsensical.

If you decide to vote no, please post your reasoning behind not wanting this punishment. Remember, like a regular scammer tag, this has to be 100% refutable evidence to be obtained.

No.

Just use a mediator, that's what they're there for.

This forum has enough tags already.
The suggestion reminds me of those who want "more protection" by adding more passwords to this site.

I've been lurking here before I made my account and I've seen so many stupid scams that I've realized you really can't protect stupid people from themselves.

What do all the tags and passwords matter when the Einstein just downloads a keylogger that says "maphack".
