So, I'm the kind of person that is very specific and intent on writing comments in for each trade in case for some reason I need to refer back to it. I will know what I bought, from whom, and for how much.
Other people, unfortunately, don't find this to be as important.

My suggestion is that we be able to edit our gold log comments on OUR side only. So if a trader leaves it blank, and I edit it to say "jah rune", I will see it, but his will remain blank.

Just a thought!

Thanks for votes/comments/etc

seems Paul  is already thinking to make the gold logs archive-able , so that users can save them in diferent formats and play with them on their own pc ..
this would allow you to make a note on each transaction's side if you so wish

i usually leave a comment when i send fg, but sometimes i just send it and don't say "donation" or something that's not trade related

voting yes however (wouldn't lie to leave a comment just because i have to..people will leave "a , b..." comments if it's implemented)

Interesting, I take it that never went anywhere?

Also, just to cover all bases. An edited comment would appear as a distinct color or font to distinguish it from a comment made when the trade actually went through.
Mods would also be able to see if the comment was edited or original. Comments that were made at time of the transaction will not be editable.

I voted no.

I think adding 'Detail' of the transaction should be made compulsary, if nothing is entered in the 'Detail' box then the transaction doesn't go through, until something is entered there.

I also like that idea  But I suppose ppl that don't like writing comments might still be too lazy and write some spam like "aghoagh;"

This exactly.

However there are many pics of goldlogs in the s/a forums.
This could get real confusing for some of the helpers over there.

Holding my vote for now.

As far as I know, mods can view all user gold logs anyway. So posting it is more of a formality than a requirement. They would know whether or not the comment was native to the trade or edited afterward.

Yes true but there are many s/a helpers who aren't mods that take care of posts in those forums.
I could see if this was implemented in a way that only you could edit it, and it only shows up for you.

If you are posting your goldlog, somehow it shows the real log, and not the edited one.

Understand what I am trying to say?

Well that's the whole point. Is the edits would be for my purposes only and as mentioned, font/color/maybe italics would designate it as edited.

The only way that people provide their Gold logs in a S/A is by screen shotting it.
Maybe, once a comment is edited in, there could be a "hide" option and that would show that the comment was made after the trade.

Also, keep in mind, that the ONLY comments able to be edited are those left blank originally. Otherwise, the comment is locked in.

Which wouldn't necessarily be beneficial when people DO comment but just say "t4t" as an example.

I'm sure there is an efficient way to go about it. I'm not responsible for figuring out the mechanics, I'm just making the basic suggestion  Let Njag figure out how to implement it if he decides its desired enough by the community.

Right on, I am just trying to grasp the concept with minimal ways to abuse it. I think I am in for it now, under the certain constraints!

So I guess every time we visit a page in our Internet browser we shouldn't have the option to "bookmark" it, right? We should just write each website down?

Any website that requires you to store information manually on your disk drive is not efficient.

It would make no sense to have a separate gold log self made outside of the site.
