The Suggestion:

Sticky a guide on how to REPORT players on Diablo 3 within the game. Put that stickied thread in the SCAMMER ACCUSATION forum, and the trade forum, stickied.

If a player scams you, right click on their name and report for "harassment" (this feature is built into Diablo 3). Then, under the harassment report, detail what they did. If they scammed you for X amount of gold, or an item, detail it. For example, if you lose 100k gold for levelling services, say "The individual asked for 100,000 gold, and told me he would help me level up. I paid the individual 100,000 gold to help me level up, and then he left and ignored me".

The Reason:

Too many players are being scammed lately. A lot cannot prove it in the scammer accusation section. There are repeat offenders who are getting away with it by not stating their d2jsp on d2jsp (or they simply lurk d2jsp and never had an account here to begin with).

If there is a repercussion for these players' actions, they may stop doing what they are doing. Or they may be forced to stop doing what they are doing when the reports pile up to Blizzard. If they scam 10 people, that is 10 harassment reports, all from separate people, all detailing a scam. That paints a picture for Blizzard, and heightens the likelihood of a punishment.

The solution to this is to not post your battle.net tags in public.

That, of course, is the most straight-forward method. And the best method.

However, many users are casual, or they don't learn how to trade until after the fact. In these cases, an after-the-fact solution can be employed. I've been scammed twice like this (small change, but it's the principle of the matter that counts): the reason I didn't check their d2jsp was because it was 100,000 gold or so when I traded, which just isn't worth my time checking. But when I end up being scammed, I of course want to do something about it.

One character named "Fate" has scammed dozens of d2jsp'ers on Diablo 3 using the method of pretending to be a d2jsp'er within the game. If he had been reported dozens of times like this, his account could be under investigation. However, I doubt he has received reports like this.

After-the-fact damage control is still a good step to take, and I think it's a very effective form of damage control. There will always be users who get scammed like this, and a guide for what they can do would be very useful.

posting battle tags doesnt make you any less safe

what makes you safe is verify the battle tag is who they say on jsp by having them pm you or you pm them and wait for response

I would agree on that no doubt.

But I am unsure anything will be done with a pure ingame talk about xx item/gold for xx service.

If you can in fact report a user for such a thing then by all means let a sticky be made on how to report a player.

But have things like this happened within Diablo 3 and accounts have been suspended / disabled / banned?

Also on another note, I do not think Blizzard intended someone paying gold/items to level your character.

Posting your Blizzard tag makes it able for someone else ingame to message you saying you are someone else and they know your d2jsp account.

This is why posting your blizzard tag should not be posted publicly.

Use a mediator to prevent getting scammed, or ask the person you're trading with to send you a pm confirming he is ingame with you

Actually this is just like back within Diablo 2 with the "Rush me for forge".

Doubt d2jsp can do anything without knowing their d2jsp acc (if they got one).

But maybe making a "Common scam method" sticky would be useful.

Just like "/DND ACC PASS" was in the last one for Diablo 2.

This is, of course, an end-step measure to people who have already been scammed. There are preventative measures everyone should take to not be scammed. The fact of the matter, however, is that d2jsp'ers are scammed left right and center anyways... because they go ahead and put themselves in that position.

What happens once someone is scammed who didn't do a proper trade with screenshots & pm's? They go to the scammer accusation section, where they are told to do it properly next time. At that point, they should be left with one final thing they can do: report on Diablo 3. Repeat scammers will receive as many reports as they do scams, and that can really add up.

Yes for a guide on how to report people.

no to sticky (not in s/a nor anywhere else)

yes for being posted in gh, closed and linked if needed, as most of the guides.

yes to add it in the General Help Unified Sticky also.
