Before I start, yes I realize members want to just go ahead and start posting and that there is a General Help Section - a lot of the time they don't make the effort to read over stickies - at least then we can say members have received the information.

Stands out so the new members notice it (also does a popup if they're already browsing the forum)



Example of the message: Not too much to read - gets straight to the point and is informative - also points them to helpful links (can be modified of course.)

There are already alot of things to read when a new members create an account. Im pretty sure, if he takes the time to go read the rules and the help section, he has enough information to start off.
When you create an interface, a website in our case, you want the user to be able to start without being overwhelmed with information. This way, they start with the idea that the website is easy to use and starts on a good note.

The intention is not to overwhelm them, but to point them in the right direction - in the case they don't read the rules and go the help section - this would be beneficial.

It was made as such so then there is no confusion.

You can tell many people just do not want to read and rather just post and get a answer.

Even users that has been on this site for years come into general help and post questions that are already answered within the sticky.

I am still up for a automatic pm for such a thing.

But I think your current one is too detailed on what is what.

Most of the links you just posted are already within the sticky.
