Why post if you dont wanna keep up with the answers?
Hence I suggest to make it a default that checkbox for tracking a post is active but can be unselected of course.
Especially helpful in trade forums imo.

i kinda like the freedom of that.

I mean they already kinda are in the sense that you receive notifications when people post in your threads. And if you want to go back to your topics they are already listed in your Recent Topics section in your profile. Not too hard to just click to add to tracked list if you really want it there.
