Voted yes, "verified" shouldn't be considered clout and I view it as something everybody should try and do to help keep the site safe and secure.

Voted yes, I think that's a good idea.
When I got verified last time, I was looking for the option in my settings for longer than I hoped for.
In the end i googled "getting verified d2jsp", found the correct page that way and then did it.

If i wanted to be verified again now, I probably would google it again

So this little icon would actually improve that.
