It adds convenience. We don't really need notifications for PMs or FG since we can see when those change on any page of the forum, but we get them anyway.

This is true.. the extra notification for FG receiving is a little overkill IMO - now we're getting PM's and notifications (assuming your setting is on). But with the raffle (personally) I don't use it enough to make notifications really necessary. I suppose there are those out there that do though B)
