This is an educated and precise comment that I think is good for discussion and I value the side point.
I do wholeheartedly agree with you however I think long term this should be addressed and given the chance to have someone request something and reviewed shouldn't be a problem. I wish I could PM Kevin or Njag with this account then say simply, Hi I would like to have this name and see what they could do for me?
It's weird for me because as a sys admin we have these rules set up to delete excess user accounts from our company simply because of database space. We allocate a certain amount of server space for each user as a network drive so they can securely store data on our domain for ease of access on different machines and in the event of break fix hard drive failures. So each user we purge we reallocate a ton of storage space on our SANS.
Inactive users on forums don't take up significant disk space. Your cloud host is nothing like d2jsp and the comparison isn't really valid. In your case, inactive users cost money, while on d2jsp inactive users don't hurt anyone.
The only people bothered by it are those people who want to have extra style by using super common names on a very crowded forum. That's not something the administrators should be wasting their time and resources on.
