Voted No. I don't think this is needed. You could always keep your old user name in your profile / signature. People who are on your friend's list / address book can find you

But people can't search me by my signature/profile if they don't know my new username. By this logic, we don't need user seach function at all. Having a profile and signature is enough.

Your suggestion is not related to mine in any way.
