I think a better idea would be to receive a message when a person has sent you a friend request, that way the top bar would be less cluttered

Thanks for the idea.

In the context of only 50 messages maximum on jsp, some people prefer a non-message notification such as I suggested. What people do with their 50 messages allocation remains a mystery to me.
