Maybe if it's a thread in which you posted in the last few hours only - or else it would cause site load issues and etc.

True, but I guess that EVERYTIME a user is posting in a topic, the server has to "log" that info and change the icon for that user...
Though if it was a client-side thing and not server-side thing I guess it wouldn't cause much lag, etc.
Again, I'm clueless about that stuff, so I'm probably wrong here o.O
