[]I voted yes, but I have a few questions.
Unless I am misunderstanding your suggestion, I think you are suggesting we have, in essence, multiple inboxes. 1 for friends, 1 for trades, 1 for rap battle challenges, still only adding up to 50 pm's.
This is where my biggest concern comes in. Unless my 3-5 inboxes are label by a preset title, how will my incoming pm's know which inbox to go to?
Say for instance I send you a pm, I would like to argue that pixels are far less valuable than paper. i title my pm "trololololololol" and i click send. which of your inboxes will my pm go to?
I think some great ideas for preset categories would be: "Trading", "Friendly", and "Other"
I think something like this would be great for preset categories, or if paul wanted to go into even more detail with it... If I am sending you a pm, when i click the drop box, your personal categories will be available.
if I am sending Lajo a pm, his personal categories will be available, etc., etc. (I'm not sure how difficult this would be to implement for thousands of users individually)
Here is a very rough image of what the pm page would look like:

I think this is a great idea and through typing all of this and making that pic and thinking about it, I have answered a few of my questions, but I would still like to know what you think.

Yes, It would not be adding space, only organization to the whole system, which is why i thought it totally possible that it may not even be a desirable thing for those with only a 50 PM limit.
As for answering how it would look in the pm box, i sort of left that to njag as he could do it in a few ways.
The drop-box as you showed, or a similar way he has done his "my events" categorization, are the main ones i was thinking.
As for presets, i didnt bother really thinking up any real details, as stuff like that is something njag would really prefer to choose on his own no matter what i thought up
