Voted No. Numerous Reasons.
I will try to keep it simple.
To be at Heart with it, if you need to block someone then a good or close first step would be not looking at their profile.
Also why do you feel this needs to be implemented on our site? As a dedicated member here I feel kind of confused. You are currently Staff. I feel much safer knowing I can pm staff at any time over the reasons they wish to Staff for. I certainly don't have anyone blocked, and if I do I would not wish for it long term while wanted to be here and helpful for so many other different individuals. While you suggest this I also have a concern that it could lead to poor performance of some staff because they may decide to block someone for the wrong reasons while having such access and standalone blocking feature. Meanwhile it could also lead to increased amount of work load for staff because more members are prone to blocking someone and it could be strictly biased off a profile view, while the other member that has been blocked may have absolutely no clue what is going on and more.
You forget that staff members are people too. If a staff member is continuously harassed... with the conversations going absolutely nowhere - then they have the right to block (just like everyone else). Obviously, there are a lot of other contributing factors, and is a last resort. Also, this wouldn't increase the workload. If someone wants to block randomly (or intentionally), then that is on them.. and essentially *decreases* the traffic; the blocked user wouldn't be aware of it. Staff will never force anyone to unblock somebody, even if the blocked user doesn't know why.
If you don't wish to permanently block, then that's great - but it's a personal privilege (for everyone) to decide why and for how long. If someone blocks you willy-nilly for no reason, then maybe it was for the best, and they've saved you the trouble. If someone has you blocked because of interactions you've had - then that might be a sign to reflect on the situation, regardless if that member is staff or not.
As for the suggestion itself, I don't see any problems with it - as long as there is a confirmation prompt.
