No need.  No.

Helpful response.

Nothing wrong with trying to help and improve things you enjoy.

Auto locking is incredibly hard to code. There is simply way too many scenarios. Things like up, and stuff like that are easy but

I do not see why it would be difficult to code - are people not telling me that we already have an auto-lock system in place for early bumping? The thread was not closed when I posted, hence it was not autolocked, and I was able to post myself and make a trade. What about the autolock system we have in place for when threads reach 61 replies? That is an automatic thread lock (which, I might add, is only used in the D2 trading forums and not for example the LS forums, or trading forums for other games, so this is presumably an exception for this forum which has been expressly coded to work only here).

I would rather see him update this once rather than having 10 people post looking for a sold item(that way the topic is bumped once and not 10 times)

If even one person posts to offer something, it is not an early bump - the person can simply say 'sorry, I don't need this item anymore, here is my updated needlist'. If nobody offers, then he can update after four hours and there is no issue. What you propose said person doing - updating once before four hours - is a violation of the rules you are, with respect, supposed to enforce, regardless of how much sense it is said to make or how convenient it seems. Either change the rules to make them fit with how you wish the site to operate in accordance with said sense, or do something to enforce them as I am attempting to suggest here. I am fine with either eventuality, but not inaction.

This might not bother you a ton but what if a new user joins the site, carefully reads the rules, follows them, and then gets suspended. For a new user they might say screw this and stop using the site. Obviously we want our user base to continually expand.

If they follow the rules as they are now, which say not to make consecutive / back-to-back posts in a thread within 4 hours, they will not be suspended. Once again, either change the rules, or do something to enforce them then. If you think a 15 minute suspension is too harsh, and would seriously discourage someone who was otherwise well-read in the rules and wishing to contribute to the site (something I find unlikely, in truth), that is why I have provided several options, such as thread-locking without suspension.

So one is okay but two are not? Where is the sense in that?

you just seem mad, sit back, have a break with a movie and let it go.
