With how forums work, I'm not sure that's something that can happen without some crazy extensive work. The entire messaging system would have to be redone I'm pretty sure.
To know their pm box is full requires you to attempt to send info to the account and you receive a block. You can open a blank message box on jsp before you even enter a username, and when you click the online/offline icon to send a message, it just opens a box with the thread link and username simply pre-added, but it's done nothing to request any info. So to know that their pm box is full beforehand, that's not going to be quick work. So I'd imagine this will never happen.

I have a feeling this is just a deep overthought... I get why you may feel this way , but if everytime I login im able to see a current count of my "42/50" DM's , that means that whenever I click "Compose message" on your profile to send you a new message, that they could check users current DM count, and if DM count = max user inbox, then simply display a help error text on the screen like stef is saying "Uesr Inbox is full"
This place being a forum would not prevent them from doing this, I think this would of saved me tons of annoying moments wishing I copy and pasted my message...
