Scammers have been taking advantage of the PM system attempting to initiate trades via PMs so what about if d2jsp made it so that users that haven't purchased FG aren't able to send outbound PMs until they've been a member for at least 3 (6?) months or they've purchased FG and verified their address threw PayPal etc.

New users can still post in threads, send PMs to anyone with a Trusted/Mediator Tag or higher, but can only reply to PMs initiated by other users.

This should stop basically 100% of the "My FrIeNd CaNT pM yOu bUt hE wAnTS yOuR iTeMs mEeT iN gAmE TrAdE1/1" and any other iteration of that scam.

Sending PMs is necessary even just to communicate game names. I think this might create as many problems as it solves.

The solution to stop scamming already exists.

Use a mediator. Free, fast and 100% safe.

Your reply has nothing to do with what my suggestion is about (stopping brand new users from sending unsolicited PMs pretending to be friends with vetted users scamming naive users), but I appreciate the incentive on trying to get more users to use a mediator.



I think this could be combated by allowing new accounts that post FT/ISO threads to only PM users that have posted on their threads. (again to forcing people to post in topics publicly and use the mediator system)

Without pm access you couldn't even work with a mediator.
