Heres my dilemma
I personally run a fairly well known level service on east ladder
Things have gone pretty well for me
(knock on wood)
But since ive noticed some people either getting screwed or screwing people over when doing or getting on account services
Ive been considering closing my services to the public
And just making it private for well known friends
The biggest problems ive noticed
Is people taking a customers gear/char names off the acc
And/or people taking fg for a service and never completing the service
We can fix the first problem easily imo
My suggestion is to have a new Help Category educating people how to prevent "on account" service scams
The services that allows the service provider to access the customer's account
This Help Category could help the customer and the service provider
Similar to these

http://forums.d2jsp.org/info.php?p=6 and how to post s/a topics on service scams here lol
http://forums.d2jsp.org/info.php?p=13we can find out how to post a s/a topic once scammed
but not how to prevent it?
Something could be typed out that would not only apply to level services
But almost any service that allows the service provider full access to the customers account
(c)(g)rushes, wps, skills, name xfers, etc
Heres some things the new section could include...
Customer responsibilities:
Services should be initiated in a service topic
Once service terms are agreed upon, if the provider is going to have full access to the account, the customer needs to prepare the account
A customer should never allow a service provider access to a un-registered account
(if on accident or on purpose, both parties could loose access to the account permanently)
A customer should always remove their gear before giving the service provider access to their account
Un-edited screen shots should be taken of the character select screen
And in channel/game screen shots to show what account the characters are on with time stamps
The customer should then change their pw to a different (yet still hard to guess) pw
Then give that acc/pw to the service provider via pm
Once the service is complete
And verified
Then the customer changes the pw back to his own personal password
Before he puts back on his gear
Service provider responsibilities:
Services should be initiated in a service topic
Once service terms are agreed upon, make sure the customer has prepared the account for you to have access to it
Make sure the customer did not leave anything of value on the account
Once you gain access to the account, take screen shots before the service is started, with time stamps
Then change the pw to your own pw
(to prevent the customer from disrupting the service)
Once complete, take screen shots proving you completed the service and proving it was on the customers char/acc
Change the pw back to the customers pw
When telling the customer their service is complete give them the acc/pw & save the outgoing pm
I always tell my customers to never leave any gear on their accounts
I make sure they verify in a pm that nothings on their accounts
Its simply too hard to prove what was on the account when the customer gave the service provider access to the account
And visa versa
Not to mention
How easy is it for a person to s/s a character select screen
Choose a character, s/s that character saying /whoami to prove its on that account
Go in a game s/s'ing & time stamping a bunch of leet items on that character
Take those items off
Then give the service provider access to the account
When the service provider finishes the job and expects payment
The customer can say, im not paying, and throw up a s/a topic
Claiming the service provider scammed these items from me
Heres the proof i have...
Its too easy
And its too easy for a service provider to use the same method when returning the account if items were left on the acc
We need to educate people that dont understand this
I am personally seriously considering closing my level service to the public
Just because of how easy it is for someone to claim i scammed them if they wanted to
Yes, we all know its easier to just use a med
And i would love to use a med for every single trade and service im involved in
But seriously, thats asking too much
Should the med then s/s all the items on the account too?
Let a med try to s/s a persons inventory with mass sc's
I doubt it
Its a lot easier, for everyone, if people just remove their items
And properly change passwords
The best way to not get scammed
Is to prevent yourself from being scammed
