This the corrected answer from the book, but I am not sure if the last manipulation is true or a mistake

yeah I think the right answer would rather be = (x+1)(x−1)2

Mistake, (x-1)(x^2-1)=(x-1)(x-1)(x+1)=(x-1)^2(x+1)

Yeah the screenshot is equivalent to (x-1)^3. But (x^2-1) needs to factor as (x+1)(x-1)
