outer dimension of frame is 40in by 32in

are within frame is 10in^2

what is width of frame

must show work

That area within the frame is tiny compared to the frame dimensions. Are you sure that's the correct problem?

either way, the setup is:
(40 - x) * (32 - x) = 10

shouldn't it be (40 - 2x) * (32 - 2x) = 10 ?

But yeah, that would lead to a very weird frame.

expand it, it will lead to a quadratic equation, use the quadratic formula
