need help on career advice
about to start teaching HS math here next month i believe once i set up interview next week (pretty solid on getting job)
but i grad too in 10 days with math ed degree. but i want to decide what i should do next. pursue more masters in apply math? or undergrad some apply math? or start another career...? always wanted to be a lawyer when i was younger (primarily for $$ but t.v. show Suits really has me liking it again). i am really good at math. i enjoy logical and critical thinking and all that fun stuff just having a hard time figuring out how to develop it extensively and apply it more
let me know if you any ideas...
no offense to op, but med school students aren't the best to ask about careers in mathematics, since the most they need to take is basically Calc1, and its rather unlikely you'll meet many med students that have done anything past your basic Calc1-Calc3 course sequence + an intro stat class.
Also, don't pick careers based on tv shows, they portray highly unrealistic, often glorified environments. There is almost zero chance of your actual job in the field being similar
I'm not an expert on law, but from what I've heard unless you are getting into a top 15 law school dont bother going because it'll be a waste of time and money and you wont be making much once you graduate
Getting to what you are interested in, you can do a lot with math. Not sure what your school requires for a math education degree, but if the focus is more on the education side than on the mathematics side, you will probably need to take some more math classes at an undergraduate or graduate level to get practical use out of the math background. From there you have tons of options. Many math majors go on to grad school (econ, finance, compsci, math, physics, engineering, etc.) or work in industry. Many jobs are available in computer science, finance, or data/statistical analysis. if you are looking to apply math, i'd try taking a course, even a free online course in one of the areas i mentioned. if it interests you look into focusing on that further
