interference is two waves (in this case light) "superimposing" (meaning they add/subtract based on how "high" they are, aka amplitude)

industrial application means some use of the concept that has direct economic value and makes money to a company......where you draw the line between pure research and industrial application/job is kind of fuzzy

there are lots of optical techniques which use beat frequencies or interferometry for measurements.
