Good book for this is America: A Concise History... by Henretta

In a very wide view, EN had expanded its Atlantic coastal colonies to include Carolinas, NY, NJ, & PA which were known as the Restoration Colonies. There were already successful colonies in MD, VA, and New England. 1689 kicked off a century of warfare for EN and its colonies with FR/SP/Natives. It wouldn't be until the second half of the 1700's that EN truly establishes dominance in NA, but the build up is a foreshadowing. This period is just past the Glorious Revolution in EN 1688, so the colonies at this point are governed via royal charter, each having their own Governor (usually from EN).

FR had issues convincing people to immigrate to NA because the FR claims in NA were not lucrative for trade, a majority of the trade was in fur as FR controlled Canada and Midwest/MS River region. FR's inability to convince people to immigrate will eventually lead to their surrender of Canada and MS River holdings.

SP controlled the South coastal regions in Florida all the way west to California, and Mexico. They had a system of Catholic missions set up across their claim. As SP no longer controlled a monopoly on slave trade that time (Royal African Company chartered by EN in 1672), EN were less dependent on trade with them. The expansion into the Carolinas (and later Georgia) threatened SP interests.

Iroquois sided tentatively with the EN in the FR-Indian War (Mid 1700s), but didn't recognize EN rule. They were a large group of tribes, often of those displaced by colonial expansion. Natives created this tribal alliance in order to better deal with foreigners. Non-assimilated tribes were considered fair game to Iroquois though, they were responsible for the destruction or displacement of many smaller tribes in regions they claimed.

I would suggest you look up some key terms for end of 17th century for context.
Glorious Revolution
Restoration Colonies
Royal African Company
King Phillip's War (Metacom's War)
Bacon's Rebellion
Dominion of New England
....

There are many more obviously, but it wouldn't do well to write it all out here.
