I'm working on a garden and I need a certain amount of dirt to do the job. A package I want to buy says it is 50 lbs. Is it possible to convert that to cu.ft or preferably sq.ft ? ( since I am still having trouble converting cu to sq) The product I am buying is Black Kow Manure.

Thanks....

A planting bed will need 5-8 pounds of Black Kow per square foot, spread 1 1/2" over the planting bed and then mixed within. Since there are 50 pounds of Black Kow in a bag it should cover between 6-10 square feet per bag.

if you spread it half as high (3/4'' instead of 1 1/2'') then you can cover twice as much sq st.

I plan on mixing it with Miracle-Gro. I need a total of 240 sq. ft of soil. 12x10x2. With a 1 BK vs 2 MG ratio.
Thanks. I think I can work that. :)

Hi, 12ft x 10ft x 2 ft will give you 240 ft*ft*ft

ft*ft*ft is ft^3, meaning cubic feet and not sq. ft
sq. ft would be 2 dimension, doesn't tell us how deep

we can help you calculate how much of the manure you need given "1 BK vs 2 MG ratio," but you need to tell us how thick of a layer you're going to put on top.
or if you're going to mix the soil, miracle grow , and manure all together, that information is needed too
as in, you want something like 60% soil 30%manure 10% miracle grow?

I had planned on mixing it together. So my dimensions 12w x 10l x 2d is cu.ft.? That would be 240 cu.ft.? Miracle_Gro comes in 2 cu.ft bags, but the Black Kow comes in 50 lb. bags. I think I want something like a 3 MG to 1 BK ratio.

I may decide to use Black hen. It comes in 20 lb bags. If I do I will change my ratio to 4 MG (2 cu. ft.) x 2 BK (50 lbs per) x 1BH (20 lbs per)

Could I get a ratio for both scenarios if possible?

Thanks.

I was considering it. I guess I probably should sub 1 bag of something for 1 bag of top soil. I'll say 1 bag of MG for 1 TS

so.....

2 Mg
1 TS
1 BK
1 BH per 3 of the others. It's very potent and expensive.

By volume, with 1BH to every 3 of the others
---------------

2MG --------- 37.5% volume
1TS----------18.75%
1BK----------18.75%
1.33BH--------25.0%

you will have those percentages for your mix
what you need to specify is ratio for volume or bags
you say bag, but bags have different volumes

Ok, but what the is the ratio?
is it based on volumes, weight, or based on bags?
