Obviously there is a sense of fear in Victor when it comes to confronting The Monster if you think of in literal terms. However, The Monster is not so much the literal manifestation of what one might generalize to be a monster but rather a manifestation of Victor's greatest fears. So in that way, Victor is more afraid of himself since it was because of his mind that he was able to create the fearsome Monster. His fear of himself relates to his egoism because it plays with the notion that the only thing Victor is afraid of is what he chooses to be afraid of.
While it may be perceived that Victory is more afraid of The Monster and what it might do to his family, this in fact stems from Victor's fear that he would be unable to protect his family in a moment of danger. Also while it may seem like Victor and The Monster have very little in common, a careful analysis will show that they are very much alike. For example, like Victor, The Monster is a rational and intelligent creature. Both are recluses and shunned by civilization to some extent.
