My answer is 4.8 -.- but if i do 3.2 - 8 the final answer is - 4.8

Which one is it really?

(6 ÷ 3 × 4)^2 ÷ 5 - 8

(2 * 4)^2 / 5 - 8

(8)^2/5 -8

64/5 - 8

12.8 - 8

4.8

P E M D A S order of operations.. parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction.

Except this is silly because it implies that M is > D and A > S while in actuality they are equal and you go by whichever comes first.

If you strictly follow PEMDAS it would be

(6 ÷ 3 × 4)^2 ÷ 5 - 8

(6 / 12)^2 / 5 -8

(.5)^2 / 5 - 8
(1/4) / 5 -8

(1/20) - 8

-7.95

not if you set it up correctly : 1/5 [(6/3 x 4)^2] -8

1/5( 24/3 ) ^ 2 - 8

1/5 (8) ^2 - 8

1/5 (64) -8

(64/5) - 8

12.8 - 8 = 4.8.

order of operations still follows... PEMDAS is there for a reason. Recognizing how to interpret a problem is just as important as solving it.
