Goal : Describe how a cell could produce a glycoliped, starting from getting the required building blocks into the cell, and then assembling them into a complete molecule.

a)Describe the transport mechanism(s) by which one monosaccharide would likely be transported across a plasma membrane (can be any monosaccharide)

b)Describe the chemical reaction used by cells to assemble monosaccharides into larger carbs.

c) Describe the transport mechanism by which fatty acids would likely be transported across a plasma membrane

d) Describe the transport mechanism by which a glyercol molecule would likely be transported across a plasma membrane.

e) describe a chemical reaction that could attach three fatty acids to glycerol molecule, to make a triglyceride.

f) describe a chemication reaction that could remove one fatty acid from the triglyceride you just produced, to make diglyceride

g) describe a chemical reaction that could attach a carbohydrate molecule to the diglyceride you just produced.

f) describe a chemication reaction that could remove one fatty acid from the triglyceride you just produced, to make diglyceride

uses lipases

triglyceride + h2o -> fatty acid + diglyceride

g) describe a chemical reaction that could attach a carbohydrate molecule to the diglyceride you just produced.

uses glycosyltransferases

carbohydrate + diglyceride -> glycolipid + h2o
