there should be 7 for a>1 and 11 for 0<a<1

u need to find the number of roots for each tanx, sin^2x - a, and secx-a
These can all be found by looking at the general graph of each of these

from a graph you can see tanx has roots at npi for n=1,2,3 in the interval 0<x<2pi

same thing for sin^2x and secx, just look at the graphs; where a is the vertical translation.

Sin^2x has 4 crest (peaks) above the x axis in the 0<x<2pi interval
hard to describe secx, but you can just google the graph. sry for very brief answer but i hpoe this helps. lmk if ur still stuck
but once u find the roots, you just add them up
