The slope of the tangent line of the graph of f at a is the derivative of f at a :

F(x) = x²
F ' (x) = 2x
F ' (a) = 2a

You want that tangent line to be parallel to line 2x - y + 1 = 0, hence it must show the same slope :

equal the slopes, work out a, finish the work, pm if still in trouble.
