How important is having previous M&A experience (i.e. I-banking) for getting an SA interview?
Is it a deciding factor or are grades/networking the primary deciding factor?

Is recruiting any different than Cravath, SullCrom, ...?

Everything is important really. What is a presiding factor is up to the recruiter, it's not written out anywhere. Stay involved, get good grades, and try to accumulate as much relevant work experience as possible.
