I need to know how to remove a certain value from a series of cells

For example

5.836
0.76
8.796
2.365
8.96532

I need a formula to remove 0.5 from all of these cells

suppose 5.836 is in A1. in B1, type in =A1-0.05, then copy the formula down. now your B column is .5 less than the A column. if you need the result in A, you can do the reverse. eg: copy the values to column B, then set A1 to be =B1-0.05
