I've got the answer, so that's not what I'm interested in, I'm interested in the method of getting there.



I was given 4 options to choose from, and calculated the answer based on that -- reason I'm writing is, I'd like to know if there's a way to find the answer, without the 4 possibilties I was given?

Let X the number of adults.
Then 22,500 - X is the number of youths (since a total of 22,500 persons watched the film).

Income from adult entrances = 150.X
Income from youths = 85.(22,500 - X)

Total income = 150.X + 85.(22,500 - X)
3,069,500 = 150.X + 85.(22,500 - X)

Solve for X.

So the final equation would be

150x + 85(22,500 -x) = 3,069,500
150x + 1,912,500 -85x = 3,069,500
65x + 1,912,500 = 3,069,500
65x = 1,157,000
x = 1,157,000/65
x = 17,800

Let's run a check on that

17,800 * 150 = 2,670,000
4700 * 85 = 399,500

2,670,000 + 399,500 = 3,069,500.
